Tallinn Tourist Safety Tips
Tallinn has very little crime and compared to London for example it is much safer - Crime Comparison Between London & Tallinn (opens new window)
Nearly all of the Old Town is covered by surveillance cameras to make you feel safe at night while walking the streets.
Of course, like in every tourist area around the world, there are theft and confidence tricksters. If you follow these common sense tips and heed all the warnings listed here, you will be relatively safe in Tallinn.
- There are some pick-pocket thieves in the Old Town - usually looking for wallets or mobile phones. Keep your wallet in your front pockets if possible, don't show it unless you have to.
- Another common trick involves creating a diversion perhaps a begging child or a street fight to distract your attention for a second. If this happens, clutch to your things and walk away slowly.
- Keep an eye out for the dark skinned gipsies who will act like a small group of tourists. They will slowly surround you and bump into you by accident. After this you will find either your wallet or purse gone. Be careful as they can unzip a bag and take what they want without you even knowing.
- Never change your money in the street. They offer a better rate than the exchange bureaus but of course you will end up with less. Your guide will take you to the safest and legal exchange bureaus on request. Just ask your female guide!
Advice From a Stag Group:-))
Bare this in mind, guys
Dear all, I don't know if you shop at Tesco, but this may be useful to know. I am warning you of something that happened to me, as I have become a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. This happened to me at Tesco in Tallinn and it could happen to you. Here's how the scam works: Two good-looking 18-year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping in the boot. They both start wiping your windscreen with a rag and Windolene, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy t-shirts. It will be impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead ask you for a ride to another Tesco. You agree and they get in the back seat. On the way, they start having sex with each other. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and performs oral sex on you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen last Tuesday, Wednesday, twice on Thursday, again on Saturday, and also yesterday!
So be careful please!!!!
